On our first night in Sri Lanka's lowland dry zone we were the only guests staying in a tented camp near the beach. For our dinner we drove over to another nearby camp owned by the same people, and it was a good thing we did, because this lovely snake slithered across the dirt road right in front of us. My guide Udaya Chanaka leapt out of our car, paused a moment to verify that the snake was not a cobra, and grabbed it. He dumped the remaining contents of a 2-liter water bottle to form a temporary home for this lovely snake, and we continued on to dinner. The next day we took photos of this snake and a couple of others that had been found in our camp, before releasing it back where it had been caught.
