Gastrophryne carolinensis
—
Eastern Narrow-mouthed Toad

Gastrophryne is a group of strange-looking, secretive little frogs with fat bodies and tiny heads, separated by a fold of skin. This fold of skin can be pushed forward to keep bugs away from the frog's eyes.

Jake Scott and I found a bunch of these weird little toadlets under some boards and other cover. They wriggled and bounced like mad, and I gave up on trying to get a good photo after awhile.
